AWIC Community and Social Services’ annual fundraising gala was back for its 36th year. Mrs. Sharada Bhat, AWIC President welcomed the audience and indicated that the Gala is a passionate effort to raise funds to support Newcomer Women Entrepreneurship Program by providing strong training, skills building and advisory support services for newcomer women entrepreneurs.

AWIC also announced the winners of its 2012 Women of Distinction Awards. Recipients for this year awards were Mrs. Kiran Kataria of KFI Foods – Entrepreneurship, Dr. Jaya Chanchlani Medical Doctor & Philanthropist –Health & Welfare and Mrs. Ginni Sethi , Business person and Community supporter– Helping Hand. AWIC’s past president Mrs. Deepti Aurora received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award for her outstanding community service work . The gala was a smashing success. It was attended by local MPPs and other VIP’s guests.

Some of the distinguished guests present at the gala were Senator Dr. Asha Seth, Mr. Joe Daniel – MP Don Valley East, Mr. Deepak Obhrai –MP Calgary East and Ms. D. Charandasi – Consul & Head of Chancery, Consulate General of India.
